Stop What You’re Doing: The USVI Will Pay You to Visit the Islands

Posted By : AdminRob/ 1097

One might not expect the U.S. Virgin Islands to need to pay people to visit, but that’s exactly what’s happening this year for the VI’s centennial celebration of US acquisition. Though you’re not exactly going to be handed cold hard cash; visitors who book through the VI’s department of tourism website will be credited $300 worth of vouchers to be used at certain participating locations.

But hurry! This great deal won’t last long, as it is only available during 2017 to celebrate the Virgin Islands’ emancipation from Danish control.

Though occupied by multiple countries over the course of around 250 years, Denmark gained dominant control over the islands for the better half of the 19th century. The United States purchased St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix from Denmark in 1917 for $25 million in gold.
