A Timeline of Bluebeard's Castle

1665 Tower is built by the Danish as a watch tower.

1666 Tower became a fortified church service building.

1672 Fort built to protect from pirates

1689 Frederick’s Fort – fortified tower with cannon

1689-1753 Hill and Fort became known as Bluebeard’s Hill

1754 Property was made private.

1856-1859 Frederick’s Fort made into a resort by private owner.

1934 Became Bluebeard’s Hotel

1933-1954 54-acre property remodeled into a tourist attraction: mansion(lobby) became governor’s house and consulate offices

1980-2000 Timeshare associations formed and building constructed

1995 Hurricane “Marilyn” does major damage

1995 Kosmas purchased from John Cavenaugh

1996 Kosmas sells to Equivest Finance

2002 Cendant acquires the Castle property. Puts Fairfield as manager

2002 Timeshare owners elected to all boards

2004 SPM Resorts become manager

2008 Legal settlement attained

2009-2011 Rehabilitation to all associations and common areas

2011 Grand Reopening of lobby (April 12, 2011)
